Sykes Confident of Trophies
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars have added another popular name to their 2015-2016 roster with the return of forward Chris Sykes for his second year on Teesside. An ever-present for the Stars last season, 23-year-old Sykes finished second in the points scorers table for Billingham with over 40 points, a haul he is aiming to pass next time around. Chris has bags of experience further up the ladder of British ice hockey with spells at both EPL and Elite League level, and endeared himself to the Billingham faithful in his first season by showing his passion and commitment to the cause. When we spoke to Chris he revealed that he feels he has much more to give, and is certainly 'in it to win it' next season:
"Last season was a good stepping stone for me and a season where I was settling in to Billingham, getting used to the travelling and getting to know the boys.
Last year we did so well: a new team, lots of lines moving around and new players to build chemistry with and we managed to finish second in the league and second in the playoffs. This means there's room to improve this year and that's exactly our aim. I came to Billingham to win things, that's what I said last season, and I'm still saying it now. This team will win trophies. We have a very good, organised team and we work hard, there's a championship in sight and me and the boys are hungry for it. Even hungrier than last year.
This season on a more personal level I want to break the 50 points barrier, 43 last year and I feel I have more to give. I can contribute with more goals, I know I'm capable of that, and this season I'll be wanting to prove that!
I've been on the ice through the summer because I want to hit the season in full flow this time! Hopefully we can lift those trophies for you fans! Best fans in the country!"We’ll be revealing more signings as the Stars squad for 2015-2016 takes shape over the coming weeks – watch the site and Stars social media for breaking news.
