With the Forum packed with invited dignitaries, special guests and the Stars’ faithful fans, the Lord Mayor of Stockton got the game under way with a ceremonial puck drop, accompanied by the Chairman of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce's North-eastern Chapter, Caroline Theobald CBE. Over one hundred commercial and media contacts were treated to a display from Billingham Ice Skating Club, as well as seeing Billingham’s Under-11s team pick up their League Championship trophy. The game itself went perfectly to script as the Stars Swedish top scorer Dennis Boström netted a hat trick to help his side secure a 7-3 victory. Afterwards guests enjoyed a Swedish buffet and were able to mix with players from both clubs.

The management team at Billingham Ice Hockey Club was delighted with the turnout and the overall success of the evening, and is confident it will go a long way towards encouraging more commercial involvement at all levels. Allen Flavell, General Manager of the Stars senior side and Club Director, commented:
“We couldn’t have hoped for a better evening – a full house and a dominant performance by the Stars. It was great to see so many corporate guests turn out, and special thanks must go to Mill Volvo for sponsoring the evening. Hopefully we will attract more sponsorship for next season off the back of the event.”

Caroline Theobald, who was instrumental in putting the evening together, was impressed by her first ice hockey game and the family atmosphere at the club:
“I absolutely loved the game – I was riveted! It’s really exciting – it’s fast-paced and it’s great to see families here, it’s a fantastic family night out. Let’s hope some of the conversations started at the game can lead to more companies from the area getting involved with the activities of the club.”
