Emerson Benefits from Extra Experience
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars today welcome back talented young forward Jack Emerson for his fifth season of senior hockey.Despite being just 19 years of age, Emerson has been a regular on the senior Stars roster for some years now. Last season was perhaps his busiest as he combined his senior duties with being Assistant Captain of the title-winning Under 20s side. Emerson proved his worth on both fronts, his team mates voting him U20s Players Player of the Year at Presentation Night. Emerson recognises the benefit that the U20s experience has had on his game and is looking forward to pushing on with his physical game this season:
"I think the Under 20s league is a great opportunity for players to develop themselves more before the big step up into senior hockey and my last season playing for the Under 20s has definitely given me that extra experience. It's also given me a chance to help others that are coming through our junior development programme. I was honoured to receive the award for Players Player as it shows that my performances last season had been noticed by the rest of the team and I personally think that I put in a good performance, however there is always room for improvement.
This season I am hoping to improve on everything but mainly my physical game. In this League you come up against much bigger players and I would like to improve on holding my own a bit more. Last season we missed out on a playoff spot but won the Cup so it was a season of ups and downs. This season we need to be more consistent and keep building on what we have learnt. The teams in the League seem to be getting stronger but I know we have the talent and the chemistry to overcome this and to be a really strong contender."Another week of player news to follow as the Stars roster takes shape - keep watching the website, there's some BIG news in the pipeline...
