Junior Tournament 2017 Part 1 Review
Last weekend saw the first instalment of this year's Junior Tournament competitions take place at the Forum, with the Under-13 and Under-15 age groups taking centre stage.
In the U13 competition, Billingham battled it out with teams from Bradford, Murrayfield, Solihull and Whitley Bay, your Stars topping the table unbeaten to progress to the semi-finals where they overcame local rivals Whitley Bay. Bradford defeated Murrayfield in the other semi-final. A tight final was eventually edged by the home side, Billingham taking the U13s trophy with a 2-1 win.
The U15 competition was just as close, Stars finishing second behind Bradford in the group stage. Bradford defeated Solihull in the first semi-final before Billingham got past Murrayfield in the second semi to set up yet another Stars v Bulldogs final. This one was even closer, the two sides could not be separated in regulation time (Stars equaliser an absolute peach of a backhander into the top corner from Joe Walls), nor 4-on-4 overtime as the game ended 1-1. Dylan Hehir was on hand to put away the winning penalty shot to hand Billingham the trophy after a match neither side deserved to lose.
Before the finals the All-Star teams were announced, recognising the talent on display.
