Roster 17/18: Dave Thomas
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars today welcome back a familiar face as imposing defenceman Dave Thomas makes a much-anticipated return to the Stars blue line.
33-year-old 'Tomo' is a Billingham legend, having turned out for the Bombers for some years before hooking up with the Stars for their inaugural season. A physical and no-nonsense d-man, Dave's presence at the back has been sorely missed as work kept him away from hockey. Playing only a handful of games since 2013, Dave's career has now brought him back to the area on a permanent basis, meaning he can commit himself fully to the Stars cause once more.
Dave Thomas season 2011-2012 (last full season as a Star)

Thomas Q&A on signing...
Q. Welcome back to the Stars Tomo! How does it feel to be back after a few years away?
"It feels great to be back icing for the Stars again after a couple of seasons out but in truth I haven't been able to fully commit to the Stars since the double winning season due to working offshore! That's changed now and I'm working at home so I can fully commit!"
Q. What made you decide to return?
"I decided to come back last season but this was after Christmas and I was too late to sign up. So I don't need an introduction to any of the team."
Q. Have you seen much hockey during your break?
"I have kept an eye on the Stars over the last season or two as my nephew Lennon Thomas plays U13s and watches the Stars."
Q. The League is completely new to everyone this season – what are you looking forward to the most?
"I'm looking forward to the new league set up and I'm sure the rest of the squad are as well, I think keeping everyone fit and travelling away with a full bench will be essential, I think there might be a surprise or two along the way!"
Q. You are joining not long after a past adversary in Callum Pattison - do you feel your addition will help with the Stars perceived lack of muscle in recent seasons?
"I think myself and Cal will bring back a lost dimension to the Stars over recent years but he will not be the only player fighting for the team - I think the full squad will back each other up."
Q. Do you have any personal goals for this season and do you think the Stars can compete?
"I will be looking to fully commit home and away now that I can - some silverware is the goal! Looking forward to the start of the season."
Stars Media Team insiders on Thomas...
"The return of a fan favourite. Stars will certainly not be getting pushed around this season as Dave comes into the fold to join Callum Pattison. An imposing presence on D who will look to pick things up quickly after a few years out."
"Tomo is just what the Stars need at the back - a defenceman who takes no prisoners and is willing to stick up for his team mates. He will need to get back into the swing of things quickly, but he has been training for a while so should be able to pick up where he left off in no time at all."
