News: Stars confirm their leadership group for new season
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars head into another double header weekend having confirmed their leadership group for the 17/18 season.
Michael Elder takes the 'C' as captain, ably assisted by Callum Davies and Chris Sykes wearing the 'A'.
24-year-old Elder has been with the Stars since the formed in 2011 and is starting his seventh season on Teesside. He follows long-time club captain Paul Windridge and Richie Thornton who was skipper last season.
"The coaches were looking to put a core leadership group together, one that could be here for some time to come," said Elder.
"Myself and Callum have been here for seven years, Chris is in his fourth and we're settled here and want to stay around to lead this club for five, ten years in the future.
"It's an honour to be captain, following on from someone like Paul Windridge who is a club legend, but we have a lot of leaders in the team reagrdless of whether they have a letter on their shirt or not."
General manager Allen Flavell added: "Michael has taken to the role very well so far, it's an added responsibilty but hopefully he will thrive with it. The captaincy group is one for this season and beyond - they've played here for a while but they're still just in their mid-twenties.
"We're excited with the new league structure, the new squad and our leadership group and looking forward to an exciting season."
