Ultimate Windows sponsored Billingham Stars

ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars have made their first new signing of the summer, with the addition of forward Kevin Boyd from Provincial Junior Hockey League side Stayner Siskins.

22-year-old Boyd follows his former Assistant Coach Tom Brown to the Stars and comes personally recommended by Billingham's new Head Coach. A fast-skating centre, Boyd came fourth in League Champions Stayner's scoring charts last season with 91 points, including 31 goals. He wore the 'A' for the Siskins and proved especially effective on the penalty kill.

'Boyder' was kind enough to give us a quick 'Q&A' ahead of his arrival in the UK later next month:

Q. Welcome to Billingham! What made you decide to come and play in the United Kingdom?

"Thank you! My father was born in England so it has always been on my bucket list to play hockey there."

Q. What do you know about British ice hockey? What has Tom been able to tell you so far?

"I don’t know much about hockey in the UK, I’ve watched some videos and it seems very skillful. Tom said it’s going to be challenging but I’m always up for a challenge!"

Q. How would you describe yourself to anyone who hasn’t seen you play?

"I like to think I’m a hard working, two-way forward that can make plays and kill penalties well."

Q. What are you looking forward to the most?

"I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Billingham fans. I’ve heard nothing but good things and I’m excited to see it first hand."

Q. Do you have any personal goals for this season?

"I don’t like to set personal goals in terms of points and whatnot, but I would like to see the team finish in the top spot this season."

Q. What do you enjoy away from hockey? What do you hope to do with your time in the UK when you’re not playing?

"Away from hockey I am an avid golfer, so I’m hoping to take advantage of some of the courses in the UK that I can usually only see on TV. I also have family in England from my dad’s side that I’ve never met before, so I hope to be able to connect with them. I’m just excited for the whole experience of living overseas and seeing how life is outside of Canada!"

Tom Brown knows Boyd well from his spell coaching Stayner, and thinks the Billingham fans have got a great player to watch:

"Kevin is a great two-way player with awesome speed who sees the ice very well - he's a great set-up man!"

Welcome to the Stars, Kevin!
