IT IS with enormous pleasure that your Ultimate Windows-sponsored Billingham Stars can announce that the club have agreed terms with Chris Sykes and are in the process of finalising his return to Billingham.
Last season’s top point-scorer joined Leeds Chiefs during the summer, but has taken the decision to return ‘home’ to the Stars. A 2014 signing from Sutton Sting with experience at the highest echelons of the British game, 27-year-old Sykes has been at or near the top of Billingham's points table every season and his return is a huge boost to everyone at the Forum.
The stats speak for themselves: a peek at Sykes' Stars career thus far shows how valuable he has been:
152 games - 113 goals / 134 assists /247 points
204 games - 145 goals / 170 assists / 315 points
Last season he had 19.25% of Stars goals, 17.75% of Stars points and had a hand in 71 of 161 goals in all competitions (44%).
As the news of his return broke, Sykes said:
“I’m glad I’m coming home back to Billingham and playing in front of you all again, back with the lads and the people closest to me.
“Moving to a new club last season was something I wanted to do, but it’s not worked out and I couldn’t think of a better place to return to, a place I do class as home.
“I’m back... let’s go Stars!”
There are still some 'i's to dot and 't's to cross, but the Stars are working to push the paperwork for the move through as soon as possible, and hope to have it completed in time for Sykes to face Whitley Warriors at Hillheads on Sunday.
Welcome back Sykesy!!!
