Roster 19/20: Dan's The Man
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars are tonight delighted to welcome their second import signing of the summer to Teesside as Daniel Silar links up with fellow Czech Tomáš Rubeš at the Forum.
Silar, who turns 21 in September, will be making his senior hockey debut when he skates out for the new season. Hailing from Chomutov in the North West of the Czech Republic, forward Silar developed his skills through the junior ranks of his hometown club before leaving to hone his talents in the States as he spent last season primarily with Casper Bobcats in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) - the same junior hockey league that Rubeš also played in. Silar put up 60 points in 39 regular season games for the Bobcats, the team's top scorer by quite some way. Click here to view his stats.
The Stars are honoured that Silar has chosen Billingham as his first senior hockey assignment. He took time out to speak to us on his signing:
Welcome to Billingham! What made you decide to come to play in the UK? Why did you choose Billingham Stars?
"Great Britain is an interesting destination for me and Billingham: in Billingham there are very friendly people. This is important for me and I got a great feeling from this town in the north of England."
You have played hockey in the United States as well as your home country – what do you know about British ice hockey?
"I think hockey in Great Britain will be great going forward. The National team was this year in the top division which is a great step up and good for younger players. The only team I know in England is Nottingham because they were playing in the Champions Hockey League (CHL)."
How would you describe your playing style to anyone who hasn’t seen you play?
"I think I am a good skater - I am a clever player, I have created a lot of assists for my teammates which is typical for me. I try to play 100% every time on the ice and help my team."
What are you looking forward to the most about coming to Billingham?
"I look forward to playing for our fans because sports like football and hockey are played for people. I also look forward to seeing the town and my new teammates."
Do you have any personal goals for this season?
"I believe we will have a good season and advance to the play offs. I hope to help my teammates and score some points as expected."
What do you enjoy away from ice hockey? What do you hope to do with your time in Billingham when you're not playing?
"If I have some free time I want to go to some football games, because football is an important part of my life. I also want to experience some of the culture and architecture in the area."
Welcome to Billingham Daniel - we look forward to meeting you in the very near future!
The Stars will reveal the two final members of the 19/20 roster later this week.
