Weekend preview: Sunday March 8 - Stars look to draw Sutton's Sting
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars will look to carry their recent good form into their
penultimate regular season game against Sutton Sting at The Forum on Sunday night.
Sutton are locked into fourth place in the NIHL North Division 1 standings with three games left in their
regular season. The Ice Sheffield based outfit have won three from three against Billingham this
season, with the Stars pre-season win their only success in the head to head this season.
The Stars are currently fifth in the league table, one point ahead of Blackburn Hawks although the
Hawks have two games in hand. The side finishing sixth place will face league champions Whitley
Warriors in the playoff round robin group.
Billingham go into Sunday’s game in a positive mood, having beaten Solihull Barons on Saturday and
held second-placed Solway Sharks for long periods on Sunday.
Stars will want to continue in that vein for the remainder of the regular season before a short playoff
series ends with a Finals weekend in Sheffield on April 11 and 12.
The coaching staff are expecting a full roster on the bench on Sunday night, giving head coach Stephen
Foster plenty of options at both ends of the ice.
General Manager Allen Flavell said: “We’re looking to carry our momentum into the last league games
and on into the playoffs.
“I think we’ve picked our game up in the last few weeks, the players have a bit of confidence and belief
in the dressing room and that shows in the performance.
“I”m looking forward to this weekend, there have been some crazy games against Sutton in the past
year or so, let’s see what the players can do on Sunday.
“There are still four home games including the playoffs and we hope to be able to give the supporters
something to cheer in those games, they have stuck with us through a tough season at times.”
Sunday’s National Ice Hockey League (N) Moralee Division 1 action at the Forum see Sutton Sting visit
for the second time in regular season play (doors 5.30pm, face off 6.30pm). Tickets are priced at £12
adults, £7.50 concessions, £35 family [2+2].
